I will ask you to imagine for a moment what it might feel like to be in a cat’s body. Living day to day at a cat’s level.
Imagine in this particular frame what it must be like to share your bathroom with another cat whom you don’t necessarily like all that much. You tolerate each other for the sake of your humans, and you tolerate sharing a rather small space to eliminate. It is difficult to turn around in and find just the right spot because there is too much cat poop in the box or clumps of pee. Maybe your human only scoops once a day. Or maybe they are away, and your pet sitter only comes in once a day. You are left to push aside the other cat’s waste and try and make a little space for yourself to go in a rather small litter box!
So you kick up the dusty litter in a moment of frustration outside the box and send a message; “Im peeing outside the box on this little mound of clay!”. “There’s no room to pee or go here.” And just to make my point a little more clear, here’s a little extra for you in case you don’t understand; “ I’m flinging the poo on the wall!”.
Cats have a way of communicating their grievances to us, they speak in cat tongue. The question is are we listening?
Do you know that sometimes a petsitter is your liaison? We are here to relay messages from your cat while you are away that might otherwise go unnoticed and solve the problem.
When you have a multiple cat household consider getting two boxes. Or maybe one really big box. Big enough to turn around in, big enough that a cat has space to find the right spot to go and room for the other cat too.
Always top off the litter, and change more often if you have more than one cat! And scoop twice a day with a bit of baking soda to keep the litter smelling fresh longer.
