Sometimes cats can be wired in such a way that may make them appear to be stand off-ish or even anti-social. While not all cats are, there may be underlying reasons why a cat may be having stress. For example, maybe he/she is not feeling well. Or perhaps they were feral before being rescued and only responds to its owner.

While It can take time for a pet sitter to bond with an animal companion, knowing tips can help. Especially when it comes down to caring for a pet that needs medicine.

Have you ever noticed that when you pet a cat too many times in a row they all of sudden attack or hiss? This is because they are being over- stimulated and have no other way to say back off! With their delicate natures, a pet sitter needs to know how to approach a cat. Like in this scenario where one needed to administer medication;

The answer? She knew from past experience that brushing a cat’s cheeks releases relaxing and calming pheromones. By gently stroking with a cat brush, she was able to calm the animal. This combined with a few of her favourite treats infront of her food dish, made it easier for the next steps.

In this particular instance, a cat needed to have insulin shots because she was diabetic. As a potential stressful situation, the pet sitter came up with a way to keep the animal calm.
